Entebbe

First and foremost, Entebbe in the local luganda language means a ‘seat’ or ‘chair’ where the Buganda chief always sat when deciding on legal cases of his subjects. This stone inform of a seat where he used to seat is located in Lake Victoria and remains a strong cultural attraction up to today.

Entebbe town is small and quiet with a diminutive center laid out between the hilltop state house the official residence of the president of Uganda. It is located on the shores of Lake Victoria the largest fresh water lake in Africa. This town is the closest to Entebbe International Airport which is the main gate way to Uganda. Entebbe town is 5 minutes drive from Entebbe Airport and an ideal town to spend your first night as soon as you arrive in Uganda.

Entebbe has a more relaxed atmosphere than Kampala, made up of Entebbe Town and the suburb of Kitoro, where you will find some bars, markets and shops. It makes for a nice place to stroll around and you will probably have your first introduction to wildlife with plenty of birds, cheeky monkeys and tree squirrels. It’s a nice starting point for your safari as you may choose to take a boat cruise to Ngamba Island to visit orphaned chimpanzees, visit the botanical gardens for birding or Uganda Wild life Education Center for behind the scene program or a general guided tour.
